Belated Post

Hey Folks,

I'm a little late on this post, by a complete day or so. Much like my beloved Montreal Canadiens, who just locked up a play-off spot in the Eastern Conference, better late than never.

This week, I close on my final classes for my second and hopefully final undergraduate career. Since 2003, 8 long years of a post-secondary education at the U of S and one degree (and a second one pending). It has been a long journey. To every professor who has ever taught me and every colleague/peer/classmate who has ever contributed to my education, I thank you all. Each and every one of you have shaped me and I can only hope to teach my future students with the same enthusiasm, sincerity, work ethic and professionalism.

One thing this last term has taught me is to reflect on my teacher identity. One thing that struck me on who I want to be in my classroom is not from my formal education, but from the Biography Channel's John Candy special I just watched a week ago. In the video, Bret Gallagher, the Marketing Director of the Toronto Argonauts during the filming of the episode was "one thing he taught me was treat everybody equally, the doormen at the hotel, the president of the company, the trainer for the team or the player, the quarterback, whomever he [John Candy] he was in contact with, he treated everyone with tremendous respect." This value that Candy lived during his life, both privately and in the public eye, I wish to do the same in my career. It is a value that I already believe in and wish to practice. Not that I don't try to treat everyone equally, but a reminder is always good to refocus myself on occasion.

I'm still undecided if I will continue with this blog or not. Until maybe next time.

Greg
