Hey Folks,
It's official, Canada has a federal election coming up. Now I am not here to tell anyone which party should get the vote. True reality is, I barely understand the whole government system. What I do wish to do however is direct you to a clip that I'm posting below by a Canadian television personality and comedian by the name of Rick Mercer. He currently has a show on the CBC called the Rick Mercer Report on which the clip is from. I think it does a pretty good job at educating those who are unfamiliar or unsure of how the Canadian Government is run.
The next thing I would like to talk about is food. Recently on the television series Top Chef, three world renown chefs and television personalities from the Food Network (Michelle Bernstein, former Iron Chef Wolfgang Puck and former Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto) were asked what they would like to have as their last meal. This is a question that pops up quite frequently on Anthony Bourdain's No Reservation amongst chefs and foodies. I myself has given it some thought and although am no expert of food, has also made a decision on what my last meal would ever be. The clip I'm posting is from the movie The Great Outdoors starring two of my personal favorite Canadian comedic actors John Candy and Dan Aykroyd. In the movie, there's a scene where Candy's character decides to order the old 96er. I know I would never come close to eating it all, but it would be fun to emulate one of my favorite actor's scene in the movie.
The next thing I'd like to post is on the stand-up comedian Mitch Hedberg. His stand-up routine is quite different than most of the other comedians I have posted on this blog in the past. Unlike the observationalist like Bill Cosby and the social commentary comedians like George Carlin, Hedberg prefers the rapid fire joke in his routine. What makes Hedberg quite brilliant in my mind is that each joke is composed with a great deal of thought, which when processed by the audience, is quite hilarious. It's more or less cerebral. The clip I wish to post is from the Just For Laugh festival in 2004.
The last clip I wish to post is on one of my favorite NHL hockey players, Luc Robitaille. For those of you who are recent fans of the NHL may not know much about this player. He was touted as an underdog coming into the league with a decent sized frame, quick release shot but slow skater. Robitaille made an immediate impact entering into the league and developed great chemistry with his linemates in Marcel Dionne and Wayne Gretzky through his career with the Los Angeles Kings. Robitaille retired as the highest scoring left winger in the NHL and has recently been inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. Robitaille generally carried a smile on and off the ice and shows a great sense of humor in this clip. The clip is from the CBC's NHL all star rookie game.
